My Easy Readers! Welcome back and again… thank you so much for taking the time to read this… I am a Sox fan but, hey gotta show the defending world champs some love right? The Cub’s are stacked with bat’s already so don’t be looking for them to draft one in the 1st round… but than again the rich will want to get richer so I will put out a few bat’s and pitchers I think they will take… lets get crackin!!!
When- Monday, June 12th
Where- Secaucus, New Jersey
Time- 7:00 ET
Pick(s)- 27th & 30th*
*(Compensation for Dexter Fowler, who signed with the Cardinals. St. Louis forfeited it’s first-round pick.)
Blayne Enlow:
Height: 6’4
Weight: 180
Age: 18
School: St. Amant High school (St. Amant, Louisiana)
Position: Pitcher
Bat: Right
Throw: Right
- First thing I have to say about this kid and almost all these kids are… What are they being fed?! 6’4 180 and he’s only 18… You’re damn right I am jealous… So anyways, Enlow was clocked at 94 MPH last summer but, his early this spring his velocity has dropped in the 88-90 range but, then again was clocked at 92-93 with his fast ball in later starts. He is only 18 and is projected to reach 6’5, 200 pounds in a few years to come… so is velocity should be consistent as he matures. His best pitch is his curveball as well as his fast ball… as a result for those 2 dominant pitches he doesn’t use a straight change-up very often. This will be repeated with every High school player and especially when it comes to pitchers… but his only down fall is an injury and since he doesn’t use his change-up often that will need to be worked with on the next level.
Michael Mercado:
Height: 6’6
Weight: 160
Age: 18
School: Westview High school (San Diego, California)
Position: Pitcher
Bat: Right
Throw: Right
- A lot of these weight’s and height’s can be varied… I have seen 6’4-6’6 and 160-175lbs so, I will give him the benefit of the doubt… Mercado has 4 pitches that are average to above average… 2-seam, and 4-seam fastball’s, circle change, and a 12-6 curveball. His 2-seamer has late dive and can control the pitch as it was his favorite pitch to throw… His delivery is fluid, his mechanics are sound and he tops out in the mid 90’s… There is not enough information on the kid since he didn’t do much travel ball or showcases till his last years of High school.
Matt Sauer:
Height: 6’5
Weight: 210
Age: 18
School: Ernest Righetti High School (Santa Maria, California)
Position: Pitcher
Bat: Right
Throw: Right
- Well… I think Sauer is playing the wrong sport… it seems like he could be a freaking linebacker listed at 6’5 210lbs… sheesh… This season he has been clocked at a ridiculous 96-97 MPH… He does have some control issues and his mechanics are more consistent and lead to better command gains… his delivery help’s deceives his pitches… His weakness is since his fastball and slider are so dominant he will need some soft stuff for the higher levels… he does throw a curveball and slider but, will need to work on them. Some scout’s claim his mechanics are a bit stressful and could be suited more for the bullpen rather than starting.
Heliot Ramos:
Height: 6’2
Weight: 190
Age: 17
School: Guaynabo High School (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico)
Position: Center field
Bat: Right
Throw: Right
- Ramos is one of the youngest players and toolsiest in this draft… The scout’s rated him with… 60-65 speed, 50-60 arm, and 60 raw power. He is projected to be an above-average centerfielder he has great range and outfield instincts. He has great bat speed and enough power to hit a homer in any MLB ball park… he will hit for both power and average. His weakness is his swing just like many young batters… his approach is very aggressive and seems out of control when it comes to the strike zone sufficiently. He is very raw talent but, with the right coaching he can be great.
Trevor Rogers:
Height: 6’6
Weight: 190
Age: 19
School: Carlsbad High School (Carlsbad, New Mexico)
Position: Pitcher
Bat: Left
Throw: Left
- When you are 6’6 and throw left handed you are an automatic hot commodity in the baseball world… At best he features a 93-95 MPH and possible more velocity as he matures and fill’s out his body… He has a few secondary pitches such as the slider and hard curve… his control is solid and his command within the strike zone could use some work but, again it can all be worked on based on his age. He needs to polish up his secondary pitches and really doesn’t have great strengths… whoever drafts him will need to be patient’s but, that’s what it’s all about.
