Hello my Easy Talkers! What an NBA draft we had yesterday huh… I will get to that stuff next week and get into detail of the actual trade. First and foremost though… Farewell Jimmy Butler, you will be truly missed at the United Center. Today I am attending my 2nd Sox game of the season! and this one is against the Oakland Athletics…. Let’s check out the match up…
When: June 23, 2017
Where: Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, Illinois
Time: 7:10 first pitch
Records: CWS- (32-39) OAK- (31-42)
The White Sox are coming off a nice win after whooping the Minnesota Twins 9-0… Abreu, Frazier, and, Davidson all had home runs and more importantly Jose Quintana went 6.2 innings, giving up 5 hits, 9 strike outs, and 0 earned runs… That is now 4 quality starts in a row for Q, and the veteran lefty has now allowed just 6 runs through 24 innings over his past 4 starts with 24 strike outs. Two reasons that is an awesome sign is because, his trade value is going up after every good start and the White Sox are winning ball games. Can’t beat that!
The Athletics are entering G-Rate Field following a loss last night to the Astro’s… in that game both teams scored 21 runs total and, the A’s came out with 9 compared to the Stro’s 12. It was 10 to 0 by the 2nd innings and the A’s had to play catch up. Which is exactly what they did scoring 9 but, coming up short.
The Chicago White Sox will take on the Oakland Athletic’s today and this will be the first of a three game-series and game time temperature should be around 80 degree’s first pitch… The White Sox will also start their first game of ten played at home as, they played 15 of its last 19 games on the road. The A’s will be on a 6-game road trip and the White Sox need to take advantage as the A’s are 9-25 on the road.
The Sox will be sending out right-handed Mike Pelfrey to the mound and he sports an 3-5 record and 3.56 ERA. He’ll be looking for his first win against the A’s in 4 career starts in which he allowed 18 earned runs, 32 hits, in 20 1/3 innings, and a 7.97 ERA… He is coming off a win over Toronto in which he allowed 1 run in 6 innings… The pitches he will use aganist the Athletic’s are… Sinker (93mph), also mixing in a Splitter (83mph), Curve (71mph) and Slider (84mph). He also rarely throws a Fourseam Fastball (94mph).
The Athletic’s will counter with left-hander Jharel Cotton… The 25-year-old owns an 4-7 record with an 5.40 ERA. Cotton is coming off a victory aganist the New York Yankees in which he allowed 6 hits, 3 runs, in 6 1/3 innings. The youngster has never faced the White Sox before and will have his hand’s full with a team that can explode at anytime… Some of the pitches Cotton throws are…Fourseam Fastball (94mph) and Cutter (89mph), also mixing in a Change (78mph), Sinker (93mph) and Curve (78mph).
Since the temperature will be around 80 degree’s and I’m sure dipping into the low 70’s the ball should be flying out of the ball park… Pelfrey at Guarntee Rate has been pretty good… he own’s a 3.04 ERA with 18 strike out’s and 10 walks over 23.3 innings… and my guess is that the Sox will give him a butt-load of support in the early inning’s so, he can relax… With veteran hitter’s like Melky… Abreu… Frazier… and a sizzling hot Avi Garica and Matt Davidson, Cotton will be trouble early. A big X-Factor of the game too will be…. Tim Anderson since it is his birthday today! So happy birthday Timmy!
Don’t count out the A’s automatically though… Ryon Healy is the designated hitter and can clobber the ball… he has 17 on the season. Kris Davis will most likely bat 4th and the dude can absolutely crush the ball out of the park… he has his 18 so far this season. And a pleasant surprise for this bad A’s team is first basemen Yonder Alonso, who also has 17 home run’s this season.
WHITE SOX- 7
HOME RUNS: TODD FRAZIER, TIM ANDERSON, KRIS DAVIS.
